The Improving Care in Rural America Reauthorization Act of 2025 renews federal grant programs that support health care in rural areas for the 2026‑2030 period. It adds new requirements that the grant money be directed toward meeting the needs of rural underserved populations and that those communities be involved in planning and running the projects. The changes affect the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grants and Rural Health Network Development Grants administered by the U.S. Public Health Service.

Key Provisions

  • Adds language to the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grants program requiring funds to be used to address health care needs of rural underserved populations and to involve those populations in project development and operation.
  • Adds similar language to the Rural Health Network Development Grants program, directing funds to increase access to quality care through integrated networks for rural underserved populations and to involve them in planning and implementation.
  • Extends the authorization period for these grant programs from the previous 2021‑2025 timeframe to a new 2026‑2030 timeframe.
