RED Tape Act

Sponsored by John JoyceRep. John Joyce (R-PA)
Introduced December 3, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 21, 2026 at 6:21 AM UTC

The RED Tape Act amends the Clean Air Act to change how the Environmental Protection Agency reviews proposed legislation. It revises Section 309 by removing references to certain federal projects, agency actions, and proposed regulations, and it tweaks the wording of the review requirements. The changes are intended to cut down what the EPA must consider when evaluating new environmental rules.

Key Provisions

  • Amends Section 309(a) of the Clean Air Act, deleting language that listed newly authorized federal construction projects, other major federal agency actions, and proposed regulations from agencies that the EPA must review.
  • Deletes the phrase “action, or regulation” from Section 309(b), further narrowing the scope of EPA review.
  • Adjusts punctuation and wording (e.g., adding a comma after “and comment in writing”) without substantive policy impact.
