Dalles Watershed Development Act

Introduced January 23, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated December 13, 2025 at 7:15 PM UTC

The Dalles Watershed Development Act directs the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, through the Forest Service, to transfer roughly 150 acres of National Forest land in the Mount Hood National Forest to the City of The Dalles, Oregon, if the city submits a written request within one year of the law’s enactment. The land is to be used for municipal water supply and related infrastructure, and the city must cover all costs of the transfer. The conveyance is made without payment, by quit‑claim deed, and is subject to existing rights and any conditions the Secretary deems necessary. If the city uses the land for purposes other than those specified, ownership would revert to the United States.

Key Provisions

  • The City of The Dalles must submit a written request for the land within one year of the Act’s enactment.
  • Approximately 150 acres of National Forest System land (identified as "parcel A" on a specific map) will be conveyed to the city.
  • The transfer is made without consideration, via quit‑claim deed, and is subject to existing rights and any additional conditions the Secretary sets.
  • The city must pay all administrative costs, including the cost of a survey to confirm the exact acreage and legal description.
  • The conveyed land must be used for public purposes, specifically municipal water supply and related infrastructure; otherwise, the land reverts to federal ownership.
