Second Chance for Moms Act

Introduced January 28, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated November 24, 2025 at 3:14 AM UTC

The Second Chance for Moms Act would change federal drug labeling rules and public health services to help women who have taken the abortion medication mifepristone. It forces a specific warning label on the drug that says its effects can be undone with natural progesterone and provides a phone number for help. The law also establishes a round‑the‑clock hotline that connects callers only to providers offering abortion‑pill‑reversal services.

Key Provisions

  • Adds a mandatory warning label on mifepristone packaging stating that its abortifacient effects can be counteracted by natural progesterone, that progesterone is considered safe in the first trimester, and provides a hotline number for more information.
  • Requires the warning label to appear in conspicuous text and to take effect six months after the law is enacted.
  • Creates a 24‑hour, toll‑free hotline, run by the Health and Human Services Secretary, to give women information on how to reverse the effects of mifepristone.
  • Limits referrals from the hotline to health‑care providers who offer abortion‑pill‑reversal services.
