The amendment lets the Secretary extend a waiver for up to four years and to grant more than one extension, giving states more flexibility in meeting reporting requirements.

Key Provisions

  • Adds language to the IDEA stating that a waiver’s original four‑year period may be extended by the Secretary.
  • Creates a new subparagraph that authorizes the Secretary to grant extensions of up to four years each.
  • Allows a state to receive multiple extensions of its waiver, not just a single one.
