Introduced July 13, 2026

AI-Generated Summary

Updated July 16, 2026 at 2:35 PM UTC

The Fund Schools, Not ICE Act would redirect money that has been allocated to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement but not yet spent, moving it to the Department of Education to support Title I elementary and secondary school programs. It also requires the Department of Homeland Security to sell a set of immigration detention warehouses it bought earlier in 2026. The bill mainly affects ICE’s budget, the Education Department’s funding for low‑income schools, and the ownership of the specified detention facilities.

Key Provisions

  • Unspent funds appropriated to ICE under the Secure America Act (sections 102 and 202) are transferred to the Department of Education for use in Title I Part A programs.
  • Within 60 days of the law’s enactment, the Secretary of Homeland Security must sell each of the 11 immigration detention warehouses purchased between January 1, 2026 and March 31, 2026.
