Introduced July 16, 2026

AI-Generated Summary

Updated July 21, 2026 at 9:52 AM UTC

The Federal Lands Lawful Carry Act would let people legally carry firearms in a range of federal lands and facilities that are open to the public, such as national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and lands managed by the BLM or Army Corps of Engineers. The permission applies only if the individual isn’t already barred from owning a gun and follows the firearm laws of the state where the land is located. This change affects visitors, invitees, and potentially staff at those federal sites.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the federal law that generally bans firearms on federal property to create an exception for certain “exempted areas.”
  • Defines “exempted area” as any unit or facility owned or leased by the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, National Forest System, NOAA, National Park System, National Wildlife Refuge System, Tennessee Valley Authority, or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that is open to visitors or invitees.
  • Allows a person to possess a firearm in an exempted area if the person is not otherwise prohibited by law and the possession complies with the state law where the area is located.
