Whereas ACI is the leading voice of the United States cleaning products industry, representing formulators of soaps, detergents, and general cleaning products, as well as companies that supply ingredients and finished packaging;

Whereas ACI was founded in 1926 as the Association of American Soap and Glycerine Producers, rooted in a commitment to science-based approaches to cleaning that keep Americans healthy, safe, and living fulfilled lives;

Whereas, over the course of 100 years, ACI evolved alongside the cleaning products industry, changing its name first to the Soap and Detergent Association and ultimately to the American Cleaning Institute in 2010, to represent the full breadth of cleaning products used in household, commercial, industrial, and institutional settings;

Whereas effective cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting products are essential tools for preventing illness, maintaining safe public spaces, and supporting public confidence in homes, workplaces, schools, health care settings and communities;

Whereas ACI member companies continue to advance safer, more effective, more sustainable, and more convenient cleaning products that meet the needs of consumers, businesses, and institutions;

Whereas ACI and its member companies have been leaders in sustainability, including advancing circular packaging, reducing net carbon emissions, and demonstrating commitment to providing cleaning products that protect the health of people and the planet; and

Whereas 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the American Cleaning Institute, a milestone that reflects a century of science, safety, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the American people: Now, therefore, be it
