The Protecting Florida's Offshore Military Readiness Act would stop new oil and gas leasing, production, and related activities in the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range off Florida. It applies to any future leases or pre‑leases in that area, but it does not cancel leases that were already in place when the law takes effect. The moratorium would end only if the Secretary of War certifies to Congress that the range is no longer needed for critical military use.

Key Provisions

  • The Secretary of the Interior may not offer any new oil or gas leases, pre‑leases, or production activities in the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range.
  • Existing oil and gas leases that were valid before the law’s enactment remain unaffected.
  • The moratorium automatically ends when the Secretary of War provides a certification to Congress stating the range is not of critical military use.
