Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor and acknowledge the distinguished career of Bruce Patterson, Michigan State Senator representing the 7th District.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 7, 1947, Senator Patterson now resides in Canton. After graduating from Redford High School, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University in 1969, and thereafter, in 1972, a Juris Doctorate Degree from Wayne State University Law School.

Prior to beginning his storied political career, Senator Patterson served 20 years as an Associate Attorney, Vice President and President of McCabe, Middleton and Patterson, PC. Senator Patterson has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1972 and was a member of the Plymouth-Canton Public School's Educational Excellence Foundation Board of Directors from 1989-1997. As Director of Planned Giving for Eastern Michigan University, Senator Patterson diligently worked from 1991 to 1994. He devoted his time and energy as President of the Canton Economic Club from 1991 to 1992 and to the Canton

Community Foundation from its inception in 1989 until 1996. Later in his career, Senator Patterson became a member of the Schoolcraft Community College Board of Trustees. With tireless devotion, he dedicated his time to improving his community as a Wayne County Commissioner from 1995 to 1998, and was elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives, where he was the first freshman ever elected to the position of Associate Speaker Pro Tempore, serving the 21st District for 4 years. While in the State House, Senator Patterson also served as Majority Leader.

Thereafter, on November 7, 2002, Senator Patterson was elected to the Michigan State Senate. During his tenure, Senator Patterson served as Chair of the Energy Policy and Public Utilities Committee, Health Policy Committee, Judiciary Committee, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee and Legislative Council.

For his unwavering commitment to excellence, Senator Patterson was inducted into the Canton Township Hall of Fame. Senator Bruce Patterson has earned a number of prestigious awards, including: the Michigan Chamber of Commerce Champion of Commerce Award, Michigan Associated Underground Contractors Legislator of the Year, the Michigan Nursing Association Friend of Nursing Award, Senior Alliance Legislative Award, Michigan Manufacturers' Association's ``Advocate of the Year,'' the Iron Rider Award given by ABATE of Michigan, Michigan Municipal League's ``Distinguished Service Award,'' Michigan League of Conservation Voters ``Environmental Leadership Award,'' Michigan Education Association ``Friend of Public Education Award,'' Legislator of the Year Award from the Michigan Psychological Association, the Michigan Court Officers, Deputy Sheriffs and Process Servers Association Legislator of the Year Award, Michigan Association of Health Plans Legislator of the Year and the ``Free Market Champion Award'' from the Telecommunications Association of Michigan. Senator Patterson was chosen as the first ever recipient for both the Michigan Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Legislator of the Year Award and the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners Advocate of the Year Award as well as Best Local Politician by the Plymouth Observer Newspaper.

Madam Speaker, during his distinguished career, Senator Patterson has bettered the lives of countless Michiganders. As he embarks upon the next chapter of his life with his beloved wife Phyllis and his children Denise, Lauren and Justin, I ask my colleagues to join me in applauding his legendary leadership, and in thanking him for his unfaltering service to our community and our country.

Mr. Speaker, today I rise to honor the extraordinary life of Constantino DelSignore and mourn his sudden passing at the age of 47.

Born on December 2, 1962, Tino DelSignore graduated from Detroit Catholic Central High School in 1980. He immersed himself in the DelSignore family's businesses, the Fonte D'Amore restaurant and the Laurel Manor.

Tino dedicated his life to serving our community through many philanthropic efforts. He was founder of CDS Foundation, cofounder of the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Foundation, as well as being an advocate for many other local, national, and international humanitarian causes.

Tino committed his considerable efforts to Angela Hospice, the Aliaga Foundation, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, St. Mary's Mercy Hospital's Our Lady of Hope Cancer Center, Botsford Hospital Foundation, the McCarty Foundation, Madonna University, Hunters Feeding the Homeless, the Livonia Italian American Club, Hockey Has Hearts, and numerous veterans' organizations and Rotarian organizations. Tino DelSignore gave with an open heart and, like the entire DelSignore family, was always willing to help.

Regrettably, on October 26, 2010, Tino passed from this earthly world to his eternal reward. He is survived by his beloved son, Giovanni, and his parents, John and Lina. A devoted brother to Luciano, Nancy, and Renata, Tino leaves a legacy in his nieces and nephews: Ryder, Caprice, Coco, Alexa, Olivia, Alexandria, and Max.

If, in the end, a person's wealth can be measured by the lives he has touched, Constantino DelSignore went home to God a very wealthy man. Courageous and honorable, Tino will be sorely missed.

Mr. Speaker, Constantino DelSignore is remembered as a compassionate father, a dedicated son, a treasured brother, a caring leader, and a true friend. Tino was a man who deeply treasured his family, friends, community, and country. Today, as we bid Constantino DelSignore farewell, I ask my colleagues to join me in mourning his passing and honoring his unwavering patriotism and legendary service to our country and community.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to acknowledge the Division 1 State Champion Cross Country team from my alma mater, Detroit Catholic Central High School. On November 6, 2010 the Catholic Central Shamrocks outran the Dexter Dreadnaughts to claim their second consecutive title.

After a season that saw great success in both dual meets and invitationals, Catholic Central distanced themselves from the rest of the Detroit Catholic League by garnering a point total of 26, less than half of 2nd place Brother Rice's 72 to win the Catholic League Championship. Moving on to MHSAA Regionals six days later, the Shamrocks placed 2nd, with a meager 2 points separating them from the Pinckney Pirates.

Head Coach Tony Magni's harriers were determined to hold on to the state title as the starter's pistol sounded at Michigan International Speedway. The Blue and White avenged the stinging regional loss to Pinckney by legging out a 1st place finish of 103 over 2nd place Dexter's 114 and leaving Pinckney to bring up 3rd place with 146. Head Coach Magni, along with Assistant Coaches Brian Wilson and Kevin Mason celebrated as their team took back to back state championships.

The hard work and dedication of this team and all of its members epitomizes what it means to be a Shamrock. By the teaching of our Basilian Fathers through goodness, discipline and knowledge, the entire Catholic Central family, including this alumnus, shares in this accomplishment.

Madam Speaker, the 2010 Catholic Central Shamrocks deserve to be recognized for their determination, achievement and spirit and I am very proud of their determination and effort. Madam Speaker, today I rise to acknowledge the Division 1 State Champion Tennis team from my alma mater, Detroit Catholic Central High School. Netting their first championship since 1986, this title marks the third state champion campaign for the Shamrocks.

Before the 2010 season began the Catholic Central Tennis team suffered the most devastating loss in their history when Varsity Assistant and Junior Varsity Head Coach Jim Zapton succumbed to a sudden heart attack. Shocked by the loss of their beloved Coach Z, the team needed to find a way to overcome their grief. They did so by playing in his memory and dedicating their season to him. Twelve top- notch players came together under the common goal of winning as Shamrocks not individuals. The result couldn't have been better and Coach Jim Zapton would no doubt be very proud of his young men.

Initially pegged as the number 3 team in Michigan's Division I rankings behind Ann Arbor Pioneer and Ann Arbor Huron, Head Coach Jim Stafford's squad took the number one ranking on September 27th after having soundly defeated both the Pioneers and the River Rats. The Shamrocks posted a record of 8-0 in dual meets and won 7 tournaments this season enroute to the Catholic League title.

CC dominated the Regional Championship, racking up 31 points to outpace Novi's 2nd place showing of 18. The Blue and White headed to Midland for the State competition with four number 1 seeds and 3 number 2 seeds. On October 16, 2010, after entering the tournament semifinals tied at 23 points with Ann Arbor Pioneer, the Catholic Central Shamrocks capped off an incredible season by defeating Pioneers 32-30 and hoisted the MHSAA trophy.

Coach Joe Stafford credits Coach Jim Zapton's mantra of being a good teammate, playing the right way and putting the team first with solidifying the phenomenal chemistry that led to his team's success. The hard work and dedication of all of its members epitomizes what it means to be a Shamrock. By the teaching of our Basilian Fathers through goodness, discipline and knowledge the entire Catholic Central family, including this alumnus, shares in this accomplishment.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor and acknowledge Director of Public Services James Anulewicz upon his retirement after having served the Charter Township of Plymouth since 1984.

While working toward a Bachelor of Science degree at Michigan State University, James Anulewicz spent the summers of 1965 and 1966 working as a student intern at Caro State Hospital where his reports, plans and recommendations led to numerous changes, alterations and new construction on the hospital grounds. Jim graduated from Michigan State in 1967 and entered the graduate program in Landscape Architecture at the University of Michigan. During the summers of 1967 and 1968, he also became a student intern with the Huron Clinton Metropolitan Authority where he was solely responsible for the analysis of the Clinton River basin to determine its acceptability for a regional park.

Prior to the completion of his program at the University of Michigan, James Anulewicz was drafted into the United States Army. During his nearly 3 years of service Jim completed Officer's Candidate School and tours of duty at Fort Benning, Georgia and in DaNang, South Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star. Returning to civilian life, Jim again pursued his Master's Degree at the University of Michigan successfully completing those requirements to graduate in 1972.

Throughout the 1970s James Anulewicz was employed by Norman L. Dietrich Associates where his primary work involved the planning tasks for both the Township of Plymouth and the City of Flat Rock. In 1978, Jim was given full managerial responsibility for Norman L. Dietrich Associates.

James Anulewicz began a long tenure with the Charter Township of Plymouth in 1984 when he was hired as the Planning Director. He also established his own consulting firm, James D. Anulewicz Associates. Jim proved to be invaluable, working closely with the Township Supervisor related not only to planning but in other areas as well. Mr. Anulewicz served as a planning consultant for the City of Flat Rock and remains as a planning consultant to Frenchtown Township near Monroe.

In 1989, James Anulewicz became the Director of Public Services for Plymouth Township overseeing the Departments of Public Works, Parks, Planning, and Engineering as well as Solid Waste and Recycling. Jim was named Community Administrator of the Year by the Michigan Society of Planning Officials in 1994.

James Anulewicz is a member of the American Planning Association, the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Michigan Chapter of Landscape Architects. He has served as the 1st Vice President of the Fall Festival Committee and is a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Plymouth.

Madam Speaker, since 1984 James Anulewicz has faithfully served the citizens of Plymouth Township. As he enters the next phase of his life, he leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and excellence. Today, I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating Plymouth Township Director of Public Services James Anulewicz upon his retirement and recognizing his years of loyal service to our community and country.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor and acknowledge Mrs. Marion Bush Licata, a remarkable Michigan citizen, upon her ninetieth birthday on August 16, 2010.

Marion Bush was born on August 16, 1920, in Highland Park, Michigan to James and Evelyn Bush. Growing up with two older brothers, Irving and J.V. Richard, Marion attended Cooley High School in Detroit graduating in 1938. While working at Bell Telephone, she went on to attend Wayne State University where she met Anthony Licata.

Marion and Anthony married in August of 1940, celebrating their love for more than fifty-nine years while raising their beloved daughter Susan who was born in 1943. With Anthony Licata serving in the United States Navy, Marion and Susan traveled by train to Virginia Beach, VA and Norman, Oklahoma to be near him.

Marion Bush Licata was actively involved during Susan's elementary school years as she became part of the ``Mother Singers'' choral group at Cadillac Elementary School in Detroit. She sang in various other choirs, as well. A great proponent of education, Marion returned to Wayne State and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Science. She dedicated more than ten years to the Detroit Public School system as an elementary school librarian, passing on a love of reading to the children under her tutelage.

Marion Bush Licata has enjoyed singing in musical groups, painting, using both oil and water color, creating stained glass, embroidery, making dolls, sewing, reading and listening to music. Marion also was very involved in her late husband Anthony's political activities. She actively supported Anthony's successful campaign to be seated in the Michigan House of Representatives during a special election in 1967. Marion Bush Licata maintained her interest in politics by attending local and state Republican Conventions for many years.

Marion Bush Licata finds great joy in her granddaughter Krista and continues to be a supportive and influential part of Krista's life. Mrs. Licata has continued to care for her immediate family and has always been a source of strength to the extended Bush and Licata families.

Madam Speaker, for ninety years Marion Bush Licata has graced the world with her kindness, hard work, and community spirit. Today, I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating Marion Bush Licata upon reaching her ninetieth birthday and to honor her commitment to her community and her country.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor James W. Considine, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle and to mourn him upon his passing at the age of 72.

Born on May 3, 1938, James Considine, Jr. spent his life in Michigan residing in Detroit and West Bloomfield before making his home in Milford. James lived a devoutly faithful life and genuinely loved serving the Lord and the Catholic church.

On July 29, 2010, James Considine, Jr. passed from this earthly world to his eternal reward. James will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Frances ``Claire''. He will long be remembered as a father devoted to his beloved daughters, Lisa and Linda and his treasured son James III. James leaves a legacy in his 8 grandchildren and his sisters, Carrie, Catherine, Jane and Linda. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. James was a wonderful man, kind to all he encountered. He will be truly and sorrowfully missed.

Madam Speaker, during his lifetime, James Considine, Jr. enriched the lives of everyone around him. There is no doubt that James was a beacon of joy, hope and inspiration to those who knew him. As we bid farewell to this exceptional man, I ask my colleagues to join me in mourning his passing and honoring his life.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor and acknowledge Milford Police Chief Wayne Walli, upon his retirement after a distinguished 39 year career in law enforcement.

After graduating from Rochester High School in 1967, Wayne pursued what he thought would be his career path, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Oakland University in 1971. During his senior year at Oakland University Wayne discovered that he no longer felt a passion for the vocation he had chosen. Soon after graduation, Mr. Walli took an extended vacation to New York City where by observing the busy police officers of Manhattan he took an interest in police work.

Upon his return to Michigan, Wayne Walli was elated to discover that the City of Pontiac was hiring police officers. Applying for the position, Walli set himself on the career path he would follow for the next four decades. Chief Walli began his career in law enforcement with the City of Pontiac in 1972. He served that city for 11 years as a police officer, 4\1/2\ years as a Sergeant and Captain for 6\1/2\ years. Leaving a lasting legacy, Walli authored the orientation manual still employed by the Pontiac Police Department for beginning sergeants.

Walli completed training at the FBI National Academy in 1993 and in 1996 became Police Chief of Milford where he was instrumental in initiating a township wide police millage in 1997. In 2004 he was instrumental in the approval of a millage dedicated to converting the former library to house the police department headquarters. Under his leadership the Milford Police Department increased its patrol and investigative abilities, growing the number of sworn officers from 12 to 20 although the number of officers is currently 18.

Chief Wayne Walli is a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and the Oakland County Association of Chiefs of Police.

Wayne Walli has proven to be a man of dedicated and irreproachable service. His loss will be felt by all the citizens of Milford who wish him nothing but happiness.

Madam Speaker, for 39 years Police Chief William Walli has faithfully served the State of Michigan. As he enters the next phase of his life, he leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and excellence. Today, I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating Police Chief William Walli upon his retirement and recognizing his years of loyal service to our community and country.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor the extraordinary life of William Barry Watts and to mourn him upon his passing at the age of 88.

Born on May 20, 1922, William Watts dedicated his life to serving his community and his country. Before graduating from Detroit Catholic Central in 1940, William was a tenaciously rugged lineman for the CC football teams of the late 1930's. Bill was an immensely talented musician as well. Having received many an accolade for playing the violin, flute, saxophone, and clarinet, Bill Watts found himself being transferred during World War II from the Army Infantry to the Air Force so that he could join the 535th Air Force Band.

William Watts earned his BA in music from the University of Detroit and his Masters of Music Education from Wayne State University. Returning to his beloved Catholic Central, Bill Watts served as the band director and music teacher at Catholic Central for more than 30 years as his bands won countless firsts in state competitions from 1950-1982. It serves as a true testament to Mr. Watts that many of his former students went on to become band directors, most notably Greg Normandin from the CC class of 1978 who succeeded Bill as he retired in 1982. A true Shamrock for life, Bill Watts was honored by Detroit Catholic Central in 1993 as the winner of the Fr. Canning F. Harrison Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Regrettably, on June 28, 2010, William Barry Watts passed from this earthly world to his eternal reward. He is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline. Preceded in death by his son Christopher, Bill leaves a legacy of five children, ten grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Madam Speaker, William Watts will be long remembered as a compassionate father, a dedicated husband, soldier, musician, teacher and friend. William was a man who deeply treasured his family, friends, community and his country. Today, as we bid Bill Watts farewell, I ask my colleagues to join me in mourning his passing and honoring his unwavering patriotism and legendary service to our country and our community.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor the extraordinary life of Angelo Plakas and to mourn him upon his passing at the age of 70.

Born on August 2, 1939, Angelo Plakas dedicated his life to serving his community and his country. After graduating from the University of Detroit in 1960, Angelo taught elementary school before returning to school himself to pursue a law degree. He graduated

from Wayne State University in 1967 and began a long and storied relationship with several cities in the Metropolitan Detroit Area, most notably serving the city of Westland for more than 30 years.

Angelo Plakas had represented the City of Westland since 1992 and was recognized as one of the most knowledgeable municipal attorneys in southeastern Michigan. During his tenure as City Attorney, Mr. Plakas served as an integral part of the economic development of the city with the purpose of making Westland a better place to live and work. Angelo donated much of his time and financial support to many civic organizations in Westland and encouraged others to be likewise involved. He was recognized as the Westland Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year in 2008. Angelo Plakas helped to form the following non-profit charitable entities: Westland Community Foundation, Westland Historical Society, Westland Rotary Charitable Foundation and S.P.A.R.K. (Sports, Parks and Recreation for Kids).

Angelo Plakas loved his community and his community loved him. Always mindful of where he came from, Angelo never forgot where he'd been and always endeavored to better the world around him. As an alumnus of Detroit McKenzie High School, Mr. Plakas formed the ``Friends of McKenzie'' to help raise money needed to continue the athletic programs of his beloved alma mater.

Regrettably, on July 13, 2010, Angelo Plakas passed from this earthly world to his eternal reward. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra, and his children, Jim and Elaina. Angelo's legacy will continue in the lives of his grandchildren Cameron, Braden, Drew, Emma and Jack. Mr. Plakas also leaves behind his brother Jim.

Madam Speaker, Angelo will be long remembered as a compassionate father, a dedicated husband, community leader and friend. Angelo was a man who deeply treasured his family, friends, community and his country. Today, as we bid Angelo Plakas farewell, I ask my colleagues to join me in mourning his passing and honoring his unwavering patriotism and legendary service to our country and our community.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor and acknowledge the Don Sherman Hubert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 345 in Redford Township, Michigan, as they celebrate 80 years of service to our veterans, our community and our country.

Named in recognition of Don Sherman Hubert, a 22-year-old private who served in Company A, 25th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division, who was killed in action on August 29, 1918, during the assault in Juvigny, France, and became the first Redford Township serviceman killed during World War I. Post 345 has been a part of the Redford community since August 6, 1930. Originally located at Seven Mile Road and Dalby St., the post moved to the Metropolitan Club on Plymouth Rd from 1977-1982, before moving to its current location at Schoolcraft and Inkster Roads.

Upholding the commitment begun in 1899 when veterans of the Spanish- American War and the Philippine Insurrection founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for returning soldiers, the VFW's national voice has been instrumental in establishing the Veteran's Administration, creating the GI Bill, and

the development of the national cemetery system. Citing the VFW mission ``to honor the dead by helping the living'' through veterans service, community service, national security and a strong national defense, the 289 members of Post 345, ranging in age from 21-94, participate in various volunteer projects with local hospitals and schools.

Madam Speaker, for 80 years the Don Sherman Hubert VFW Post 345 has maintained a prominent presence in the Metropolitan Detroit area as a leader in service to veterans and civilians alike. Today, I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating the storied soldiers of Post 345 and recognizing their years sacrifice and loyal service to our veterans, our community and our country.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor and acknowledge Miss Margaret Dunning, a remarkable Michigan citizen, upon her one hundredth birthday on June 26, 2010.

Miss Dunning was born on June 26, 1910, in Redford, Michigan to Charles and Bessie (Rattenbury) Dunning. Although Margaret was given little chance of survival when her mother experienced complications during her birth, Margaret has not only survived but thrived. Margaret attended the old Plymouth High School which now houses Central Middle School graduating in 1929. After attending the University of Michigan for two years, Margaret went on to study at the Hamilton School of Business in Ypsilanti.

Miss Dunning was employed at the Phoenix Mill Ford plant during the 1930s and also worked as a bank teller and assistant cashier in local Plymouth banks. Having devoted her time to the American Red Cross during World War II, Miss Dunning purchased Goldstein's Apparel in 1947 and renamed the store Dunning's, selling it after 20 years. Margaret still resides in the home on Penniman built by her mother.

Margaret Dunning's love of her community led her to become a major benefactor when the Plymouth Historical Society expressed their desire to build a permanent home. As the result of her generosity, a 15,000 square foot building now stands at the corner of Main and Wing in her beloved Plymouth. Miss Dunning championed the Plymouth Historical Society again when they expanded their museum and is a permanent member of the Historical Society's Board of Directors. She also was instrumental in the construction of the Dunning-Hough Library.

Margaret Dunning still enjoys a love of travel, particularly to Europe. She has a notable collection of classic cars stored in her garage, which she has affectionately dubbed Gasoline Alley. Margaret selects one of her prized automobiles every August to drive in the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Madam Speaker, for one hundred years Miss Margaret Dunning has graced the world with her kindness, hard work, and community spirit. Miss Dunning's attributes her longevity to enjoying and participating in the beautiful world around her. Today, I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating Miss Margaret Dunning upon reaching her one hundredth birthday on June 26, 2010, and to honor her commitment to her community and her country.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to acknowledge the Division 1 State Champion Girls' Soccer Novi High School. On June 19, 2010, the Novi Lady Wildcats sealed a 2-1 victory over Plymouth, marking the 4th Division 1 State Championship under the Head Coach Brian O'Leary since 2005.

After having amassed a division record of 8-1-1 and sharing the Kensington Lake Athletic Association's Central Division title with the Northville Mustangs, the Lady Wildcats

headed in to district play with overall regular season tally of 14-2-2. Novi dimmed the Knights of Walled Lake Northern 1-0 before crushing the Farmington Falcons 5-0 in the district semifinal. The 'Cats eliminated the North Farmington Raiders to win the District 9 crown.

Moving on to regional match-ups, Novi got past Fraser's Ramblers by a score of 2-1. The Lady Wildcats defense would prove impenetrable against both Troy and Rochester Adams as the Green and White eked out identical 1-0 scores against the opposition in regional final and state semifinal matches, setting the stage for a Wildcat showdown.

Facing their KLAA rival Plymouth Wildcats in the final match of the season, the Novi Wildcats buried a 12 yard penalty kick midway through overtime giving Novi the right to raise high the Division 1 State Championship trophy.

Madam Speaker, with a season record of 21-2-2 and having earned an astounding 4th state title in the last 6 years, the 2010 Novi Lady Wildcats deserve to be recognized for their determination, achievement, spirit and effort. I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating the Wildcats for obtaining this spectacular title and in honoring their devotion to our community and country.

Madam Speaker, today I rise to honor the extraordinary life of Jeffrey Potter and to mourn him upon his passing at the age of 58.

Born on June 15, 1952, Jeff Potter dedicated his life to serving his community and his country. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Jeff retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of employment. Jeff loved his community and his community loved him.

Jeff was elected to the South Lyon City Council in November 1987 serving until November 1989 when he was elected mayor of South Lyon, serving 13 years until being elected to serve on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. During his tenure on the Oakland County Commission, Mr. Potter chaired the public services committee and served on the general government and finance committees. He hoped to continue to represent the constituents of Oakland County's 8th district by retaining his seat this fall. Jeff also served as a Member/Delegate to SEMCOG and was a member of the Oakland County Library Board.

Jeffrey Potter was an active proponent of community partnerships, hoping to reduce the cost of government while adding to Oakland County's quality of life. He was an organizer and founding community sponsor of the Huron Valley Trail System, which connects many Oakland communities and area parks. Jeff Potter authored a Strategic Land Acquisition project in an effort to preserve land for ``green space'' and future parks. As then-Mayor Potter, Jeff was honored with the Distinguished Leadership in Joint Public Services Award, 1998, and Outstanding Project Award, 1998, for southeastern Michigan.

Regrettably, on June 21, 2010, Jeffrey Potter passed from this earthly world to his eternal reward. He is survived by his beloved wife, Andra, his sons, Michael and Daniel and his daughter, Jessica. A courageous and honorable man, Jeff will be sorely missed.

Madam Speaker, Jeff will be long remembered as a compassionate father, a dedicated husband, a leader, and a friend. Jeff was a man who deeply treasured his family, friends, community and his country. Today, as we bid Jeff farewell, I ask my colleagues to join me in mourning his passing and honoring his unwavering patriotism and legendary service to our country and our community.
