The Promoting Physical Activity for Americans Act requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to issue a national physical‑activity recommendation report by Dec. 31, 2028 and at least every ten years thereafter. The reports must be based on the latest scientific evidence and include guidance for groups such as children and people with disabilities. Updated reports are also required five years after the first publication and every ten years, and federal agencies should consider these recommendations when developing their own policies. The law does not create any enforceable fitness standards.

  • Requires an updated report no later than five years after the initial report and subsequently every 10 years, focusing on evidence‑based practices or specific issues.
  • Federal agencies proposing differing recommendations must consider the HHS reports when appropriate.
  • Clarifies that the Act does not create binding fitness standards or limit existing biomedical research authority.
