The GI Bill Transferability Act changes the rules for moving Post‑9/11 educational benefits from one service member to another. It lowers the service‑time requirement to six years and lets transfers happen at any time, not just while the member is still on active duty. These changes affect service members who want to give their education benefits to family members.

Key Provisions

  • Sets the eligibility threshold to a minimum of six years of service in the uniformed services.
  • Allows the transfer of benefits to occur at any time, regardless of whether the service member is still serving.
  • Updates related sections of the law to match the new eligibility and timing rules, removing outdated language and reorganizing subsections.
