National Amusement Park Ride Safety Act

Introduced March 5, 2025

AI-Generated Summary

Updated November 24, 2025 at 2:11 AM UTC

The National Amusement Park Ride Safety Act changes the Consumer Product Safety Act so that amusement rides that are permanently attached to a location are treated like other consumer products and subject to safety oversight by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. It also provides dedicated funding—$11.5 million each year—to support the Commission’s work on both fixed and non‑fixed rides, and it clarifies what types of rides are covered under the law.

Key Provisions

  • Amends the Consumer Product Safety Act to remove the exemption that kept amusement rides permanently fixed to a site out of the definition of a consumer product, so these rides are now covered by CPSC regulations.
  • Creates a new annual funding authorization of $11.5 million for the Consumer Product Safety Commission to oversee amusement rides, with $5 million earmarked for rides that are not permanently fixed and $6.5 million for rides that are permanently fixed.
  • Defines a “covered device” as any mechanical ride that carries passengers for amusement along a set route or area and is operated by an employee, not by the passenger as a consumer.
