The Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act of 2025 directs the Department of Health and Human Services, in coordination with the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, to conduct an inter‑agency review of lung‑cancer research focused on women and underserved groups. The review will look at current research, gaps, and ways to expand screening, preventive services, and public education, and will report its findings to Congress within two years. The bill mainly affects women, low‑income or otherwise underserved populations eligible for lung‑cancer screening, and the federal agencies involved in health research and services.

Key Provisions

  • HHS, together with the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments, must carry out an inter‑agency review of lung‑cancer research concerning women and underserved populations.
  • The review must include a comprehensive report on past research outcomes, existing activities, and knowledge gaps across all federal agencies.
  • It must identify opportunities for collaborative, multidisciplinary research, including studies of environmental and genetic factors and advances in imaging and diagnosis.
  • The review should propose ways to develop a national lung‑cancer screening strategy that expands access for women and underserved groups.
  • It should outline a national public‑education and awareness campaign about lung cancer in these populations and the importance of early detection.
  • A final report summarizing the review and recommendations must be submitted to Congress no later than two years after the law’s enactment.
