The Fort Bragg Land Transfer for Veterans Act lets the Secretary of the Army give about 20 acres of land at Fort Bragg to the State of North Carolina so the state can build a veterans’ State home. The transfer is made without payment, but North Carolina must cover any costs the Army incurs in the process. If the land is not used for a State home, the property can revert to the federal government.

Key Provisions

  • The Secretary of the Army may convey, at no cost, roughly 20 acres (Parcel 3B) on Fort Bragg to North Carolina for constructing a veterans’ State home.
  • North Carolina must pay or reimburse the Army for all costs related to the conveyance, including environmental and real‑estate due diligence.
  • If the land is not used for a State home, the Secretary can reclaim the property and enter it immediately.
  • The Secretary may impose additional terms to protect U.S. interests.
  • The term “State home” is defined by the existing federal law governing veterans’ state homes.
