Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize and honor Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church of Shreveport, Louisiana--an enduring and dynamic institution whose spiritual, social, and civic influence has enriched the Cedar Grove community and the wider Shreveport region for more than half a century. Since its emergence as a central force in the city's African American religious life in the 1960s, Peaceful Rest has stood as both a place of worship and a powerful agent for community uplift, compassion, and transformation. Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the church has long demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Christian fellowship, education, service, and outreach.

The modern era of Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church began in 1994 with the arrival of Rev. Dr. R. Timothy Jones, whose visionary leadership ushered in unprecedented growth and revitalization. Under Dr. Jones' compassionate guidance and dynamic preaching, the congregation grew from approximately 200 members to over 2,000, establishing the church as one of the most vibrant and active faith communities in Shreveport. His ministry strengthened Peaceful Rest's presence in Cedar Grove, deepened its engagement with families, seniors, and youth, and expanded its capacity to meet the spiritual and practical needs of the community.

Peaceful Rest's impact is felt not only within its sanctuary but also throughout Shreveport's neighborhoods, where the church has become a trusted anchor of support and service. Through scholarship programs, educational initiatives, senior ministries, recreational activities, and family support services, the church has consistently invested in the growth and well-being of its members and neighbors. Additionally, the Cedar Grove Community Development Corporation, the learning center, and the adult academy reflect the church's dedication to addressing long-term community needs, including education, workforce development, and neighborhood revitalization.

Peaceful Rest's influence extends far beyond Shreveport. With the establishment of a church in Malawi, Africa, in 2016, the congregation demonstrated its commitment to global missions and international Christian outreach. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Christian Love Baptist Church of Alexandria, Louisiana, an enduring institution of faith, service, and community fellowship whose roots run deep in Rapides Parish. Established in 1954 under the leadership of the late Rev. Bert Collins, Christian Love began as a small but devoted congregation committed to sharing the Gospel and fostering Christian unity. At the same time, nearby Gethsemane Baptist Church, organized and pastored by the late Rev. Charlie Jackson, was growing in its own ministry outreach. Both churches served as spiritual anchors for African American families in Alexandria during a period of significant cultural change and community development.

In 1963, these two congregations, Christian Love Baptist Church and Gethsemane Baptist Church, joined together in a historic merger that united their memberships, ministries, and visions for the future. It is not easy for two churches, each with its own history, pastor, and traditions, to become one, and the willingness of both congregations to do so reflects a deep commitment to unity and to the larger mission of serving the people of Alexandria. The merger created a single congregation with expanded capacity for worship, fellowship, and service, and it laid a powerful foundation for decades of spiritual growth, community involvement, and renewed commitment to uplifting the people of Alexandria.

The church entered a new chapter of organizational stability on January 4, 1982, when it was formally incorporated as Christian Love Baptist Church of Alexandria, Inc., a nonprofit religious corporation under Louisiana law, recognized as a tax-exempt organization. Local members often describe Christian Love as a welcoming haven, a place defined by compassion, encouragement, and unwavering faith. Its ministries emphasize Christian love in action, offering programs that support spiritual development, family life, and communal support.

For generations, Christian Love Baptist Church has upheld its reputation as a center of love, faith, and service within the Alexandria community. It has been a place where families have come together to worship, where believers have been encouraged to grow in their faith, and where neighbors have found compassion and support in times of need. This long history of service is central to the church's identity: it is a congregation that has understood from its earliest days that the Gospel is lived out not only on Sunday morning, but in the care that its members show for one another and for the community around them.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Second Union Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6436 Old Baton Rouge Highway in Alexandria, Louisiana, on the historic Inglewood Plantation, a congregation that has traveled more than 130 years by faith. The church was founded and organized on March 12, 1894, under the leadership of Rev. George Washington. Rev. Matt Bryar served as its second pastor until early 1903, and Rev. Mack Williams became the third pastor in 1903. During Rev. Mack Williams' illness, Rev. Isaac Williams, who had been baptized at the church and later ordained, carried on the services. Under the leadership of both men, the church held Sunday school and Baptist Youth Planning Unit services and purchased one-third of an acre of property.

Rev. Lewis Jones became pastor in 1923 and served until his death on May 7, 1929, and Rev. J.S. Robinson served from July 1929 until 1935, during which time the church purchased an additional half acre of property. Rev. Dave Williams served faithfully from 1935 until 1938. That year, Dr. G.C. Jacobs was elected pastor, and under his leadership and guidance the church prospered in many ways, including through the time and patience it took to form the many auxiliaries and organizations in which the congregation takes pride today. The church building was torn down by Hurricane Audrey and later rebuilt, with classrooms and air conditioning added in later years. Dr. Jacobs resigned in January 1976 because of illness after serving as pastor for 38 years, and Rev. Albert Robinson, an associate minister, carried on services until a pastor was elected.

In April 1976, Rev. Wilbert Wilson, Jr., was elected pastor, and under his leadership the church prospered tremendously. He organized the Welfare Fund, through which the church helped many people in need, and the church supported charitable organizations including the Wolverine Foundation, the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, and the Doll and Toy Fund. The Youth Department was organized and membership increased greatly. In 1979, five deacons were ordained: Curtis Robinson, Sr., Johnnie Elie, Wesley Anderson, Charlie Gilmore, and Joseph Hudson, Jr., Deacon Gilmore was later called into the ministry and appointed as Youth Minister. In 1985, the church built a new cafeteria and fellowship hall, dedicated in the names of the late Rev. G.C. Jacobs and Deacon Dan Taylor. Rev. Wilson remained pastor until August 1985.

On December 19, 1985, Rev. Theodore Simon was elected pastor, and he was installed on January 26, 1986, by the United Educational Missionary Baptist Association under the leadership of the late Dr. R.B. Bennett. During his tenure, the church held night services and Baptist Training Union classes on first and third Sunday nights, and ministers Charles Dearbone and Charles Simon were appointed to lead Wednesday night Bible study. Significant improvements were made to the church and fellowship hall in 1996 and 1997, and the congregation gathered for its first Watch Care Service to welcome the year 2000. Pastor Simon retired in June 2001 because of illness, preaching his last sermon on the fourth Sunday in June. During his leadership, the congregation was fed with the Word of God, and he encouraged the church to ``keep on keeping on.''

On October 14, 2001, Rev. Joseph Martin, Jr., was elected pastor, and with his vision many updates were made to the church. He continues to serve today as Senior Pastor, supported by associate pastors Rev. Robert Phillips and Rev. Reginal Babin. In 2002, the congregation undertook a major restoration of the Inglewood Cemetery, including the purchase of crosses and a flagpole, and a dedication service was held on May 25, 2003, at which a bronze memorial donated by Mrs. Polly Keller Winters was unveiled. In 2005, Mrs. Patricia Fowler donated an additional 0.51 acres of land, appraised at $10,000, to the church.

On Saturday, August 20, 2011, the church held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new sanctuary, a historic event attended by ministers, councilmembers, and other elected officials. The new sanctuary was completed in November 2012, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on December 9, 2012, assisted by the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce. A passing of the torch ceremony took place that day, with the torch passed from an older member of the church down to its youngest, and the sanctuary was formally dedicated on December 16, 2012. The church lives by a creed built around five purposes: Worship, Reach, Teach, Grow, and Serve, ministering to the needs of the community. In the years that followed, the church established its website in 2015, laid the foundation for a parking lot, dedicated the Fowler and Davis Conference Room, and renamed the old sanctuary the Simon and Martin Family Center in 2017.

In 2018, the church held an ordination service on September 16 for eight deacons: Roosevelt M. Anderson, Sr., Jerrell Antwine, Sr., James D. Hickman, Kevin U. Johnson, Gary W. Phillips, Sr., Tommy Robinson, Jr., Anthony Sewell, Sr., and James Woods, Sr. That same year, Inglewood Grace Community Outreach Ministries, Inc., the church's outreach ministry, accepted the donation of 0.312 acres of property from Moreland Farms, LLC.

Through all of these years, the congregation has remembered the members who laid its early foundation, celebrated the present, and anticipated the future with great faith.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the historic and enduring legacy of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, a steadfast pillar of faith and community in Central Louisiana and the Alexandria area for more than a century. The church traces its beginnings to 1925, when its first sanctuary was constructed on land generously donated by Rev. Hall and his wife. Rooted in a strong foundation of Christian believers, the congregation persevered through trials, challenges, and the uncertain conditions of its early years. Their resilience, anchored in faith, established Zion Hill as a spiritual refuge committed to worship, service, and the advancement of God's Kingdom.

In 1996, a significant new chapter began when Dr. Joshua Joy Dara, Sr., moved to Central Louisiana and accepted the call to serve as pastor. His inspiring leadership, dynamic preaching, and passion for teaching the Word of God brought renewed growth and vitality to the congregation. Under Dr. Dara's guidance, Zion Hill experienced unprecedented expansion, growing from a modest membership of 75 to more than 3,500 worshipers. His ministry has touched countless lives, drawing individuals and families into deeper fellowship and spiritual maturity.

Today, Zion Hill stands as one of the region's most vibrant and visionary congregations, operating more than 50 ministries that address spiritual, educational, and social needs across the community. These ministries reflect the church's commitment to serving the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. Whether through youth programs, outreach initiatives. Christian education, or service-focused projects, Zion Hill continues to uplift its congregation and its surrounding neighborhoods with compassion and purpose.

The church's long history of service is central to its identity. A congregation that began with a small group of believers on land donated by a pastor and his wife has grown into one that serves thousands, and it has done so by remaining true to the idea that faith is meant to be lived out in service to others. By meeting needs that are spiritual, educational, and social, Zion Hill has become a place where families find not only worship, but also guidance, encouragement, and practical support.

The church's reach extends far beyond its physical walls. Zion Hill's worship services are broadcast weekly on multiple television stations throughout Louisiana and shared across numerous social media platforms, allowing the message of hope to reach national and international audiences. Through this expanded digital presence, Zion Hill continues its mission of spreading the Gospel and connecting believers from every walk of life, including those who are unable to join in person.

The impact of Zion Hill on the faith community of Alexandria and Central Louisiana is significant. With a membership in the thousands and more than 50 ministries, it stands alongside the region's other churches in the shared work of nurturing faith, supporting families, and serving those in need, and it serves as a model of what a growing, service-minded congregation can accomplish. Its example encourages other congregations and inspires the many individuals and families who have found a spiritual home within its walls.

Mr. Speaker, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church remains a beacon of light, steadfast devotion, and transformative ministry in Central Louisiana, faithfully carrying forward its calling to serve God and His people. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Timothy Baptist Church of Alexandria, Louisiana, a congregation with deep roots in the community that trace back to 1880, when the church was founded in Latanier, Louisiana. Timothy began as a small congregation in a rural setting and grew through the dedication of its early members and leaders. For more than 140 years, it has been a steady presence in the lives of its members and an important part of the faith community of Alexandria.

What has distinguished Timothy Baptist Church throughout its history is its willingness to adapt in order to best serve its members. Over the decades, as the congregation expanded and the community changed, the church relocated several times. Each move reflected both the growth of the church and the shifting needs of its members, and each demonstrated a congregation that understood that its mission was to go where its people were and to meet them where they were. A church that began in a rural community in 1880 and found its home in Alexandria is a living example of a congregation that has grown and changed without losing sight of its purpose.

In 1965, the church was officially chartered and incorporated, a formal step in its organizational history that placed the congregation on firm footing for the future. The congregation's perseverance and faithfulness then led to the construction of its current building, which was dedicated in 1968. That building became a central place of worship and community gathering, symbolizing the dedication of the church's founders and congregants and giving generations of families a permanent home for worship, fellowship, and celebration.

Throughout its history, Timothy Baptist Church has been led by committed pastors, including Rev. George L. Price, Sr., who emphasized sharing the goodness of God and transforming the world through faith and service. The church's mission has consistently focused on fostering Kingdom-minded disciples through the teachings of Jesus Christ and the inspiration of the holy spirit, a mission that looks outward as well as inward, equipping believers to carry their faith into their families, their workplaces, and their neighborhoods.

Today, Timothy Baptist Church continues to serve as a spiritual and community hub in Alexandria, maintaining its mission to empower the next generation of Christians while preserving its rich heritage. By honoring its past while preparing its young people to lead, the church strengthens not only its own congregation but the faith community of Alexandria as a whole, setting an example of how a church can remain rooted in tradition while responding to the needs of each new generation.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Rose of Sharon Baptist Church of Alexandria, Louisiana, a congregation that has been dedicated to sharing the Word of God for more than a century and has long been an important part of the faith community of Alexandria. The church traces its origins to March 3, 1908, when about 65 people gathered for worship in Butler Hall on Lee Street in Alexandria. The group was so impressed by a young minister from Avoyelles Parish, Rev. James Wesley White, that on April 26, 1908, they invited him to preach, and on May 14, 1908, they formally appointed him as their pastor, establishing the church with seven deacons, seven deaconesses, and nine trustees.

In 1908, the congregation purchased a lot and building at the corner of 10th and St. James Streets, but the building was destroyed by fire in 1911. The church quickly rebuilt, and under Rev. J.W. White's leadership it grew to about 400 members and expanded into auxiliaries such as choirs, mission societies, youth groups, and educational boards, each deepening the spiritual life of the congregation and its service to the community.

On March 20, 1947, following the passing of Rev. J.W. White, the church elected his son, Rev. Willie Augustus White, as pastor. Under his guidance, the church underwent major renovations, established more auxiliaries, and deepened its involvement in the Eighth District Missionary Baptist Association, the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention, and the National Baptist Convention, USA.

In 1959, a building committee planned a new church. Groundbreaking took place on July 12, 1959, and the current building was dedicated on June 12, 1960, at a cost of $175,000. The mortgage was paid off in 1966. The church acquired additional property for parking, and its grounds came to extend from St. James Street to Winn Street. The later arrival of Interstate 49 transformed the surrounding area, but the church continued to grow in line with its vision.

The story of Rose of Sharon is also a story of resilience. A congregation that rebuilt quickly after a devastating fire just 3 years after its founding, that dedicated a new sanctuary in 1960 and paid off its mortgage within six years, and that continued to grow even as Interstate 49 reshaped the neighborhood

around it, has shown the strength of a community that holds together through change. For generations, its choirs, mission societies, youth groups, and educational boards have given families a place to worship, learn, serve, and belong, and have helped shape the spiritual lives of countless Alexandria residents.

The church's reach has extended beyond its own walls. Through its involvement in the Eighth District Missionary Baptist Association, the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention, and the National Baptist Convention, USA, Rose of Sharon has stood alongside other congregations in the shared work of strengthening Baptist churches and carrying out the mission of the church at the district, state, and national levels. In this way, it has contributed to the strength and unity of the broader faith community of Alexandria and beyond.

Today, Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, led by Rev. Carl Owens, remains a Baptist congregation dedicated to sharing the Word of God, evangelism, and holistic ministry through spiritual, educational, and recreational programs. Its history reflects a steadfast commitment to community service, growth, and enduring faith, and its spiritual, educational, and recreational programs continue to serve the needs of its members and neighbors alike.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor True Vine Baptist Church of Alexandria, Louisiana, a congregation whose origins date back to August 1900 and whose long history of service has made it a cornerstone of the Alexandria faith community. After fervent prayer meetings in the old Peabody School frame building, a dedicated group of believers sought the guidance of Dr. C.L. Roberts of Cheneyville, who organized True Vine that same year. The church later moved to Duck Alley, where members constructed a small frame building for services. When Dr. Roberts was unable to continue leading because of the hardships of travel, he advised the members to seek a new pastor, and records reflect early pastoral leadership from Rev. Solomon Washington and Rev. Cephus Hayes.

In 1910, Rev. John S. Smith became pastor of approximately 20 members, and under his leadership True Vine nourished. He organized numerous auxiliaries, including the Sunday School, Women's Home Mission Society, Junior Mission, Y.W.A., Girl's Auxiliary, Sunshine Band, B.Y.P.U., and Royal Ambassadors, expanded the church facility, and purchased additional property on Carr Street. Membership grew from 20 to 854 before his passing on March 15, 1940. On August 12, 1940, Rev. J.H. Hayes was elected pastor and led significant improvements, including adding a balcony, installing fans, building a library, and constructing an educational building. During his tenure, the church purchased three lots for a new site on Broadway Avenue, where a church was completed in 1954. Rev. Hayes passed away on October 26, 1960.

Rev. Howard L. Williams was selected as pastor on January 18, 1961. His administration oversaw extensive renovations, including the annexation of buildings, new offices and rooms, paneling, tile flooring, telephones, and expanded facilities such as Hayes Dining Hall. He also organized the Truevineer Choir, the Young Adult Choir, and the Matrons. Rev. Williams served faithfully until his passing in

1977, leaving a membership of 972. Rev. Frank B. Whorton followed beginning in 1978, and Rev. Solomon Shorter, Sr., was installed on May 14, 1982.

Under Rev. Shorter's dynamic leadership, True Vine expanded its outreach dramatically. The church fed the hungry, supported charities, assisted the sick and needy, launched after-school programs, and distributed 5,000 pounds of food each month. It established the Student Referral Center through a $125,000 grant from the Louisiana Department of Education, acquired 100 computers, purchased new property, and supported evacuees during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The church continued to grow under Rev. Shorter's leadership until his passing in 2022. During his tenure, it carried out a Debt Reduction Program, accumulated significant building funds, worshiped temporarily at Peabody Magnet High School, and in 2009 marched joyfully into its new 19,500-square-foot sanctuary at 831 Broadway Avenue.

In 2019, Rev. Wilfred Gallien, Jr., became Interim Pastor and guided the church through the COVID-19 pandemic, and he was installed as pastor on August 20, 2023. Under Pastor Gallien's leadership, True Vine has welcomed new trustees, deacons, and deaconesses, revised its bylaws, and made history by welcoming Rev. Loraine Holmes as the first woman to preach from its pulpit. The church has also renovated its Food Pantry with grant funding and established new ministries, including the Welcome Committee and the Outreach Ministry.

The thread running through True Vine's 126-year history is service. From the early auxiliaries organized to serve women, girls, and young people, to the feeding of the hungry, the after-school programs, the Student Referral Center, the monthly distribution of food, and the support offered to families displaced by hurricanes, True Vine has shown, generation after generation, that faith is lived out in care for one's neighbors. Its Food Pantry, renovated and expanded under Pastor Gallien, carries that tradition forward today.

The impact of True Vine extends well beyond its own membership. As one of the longstanding congregations of Alexandria, it contributes to the strength of the broader faith community, standing alongside other churches in the shared work of nurturing faith, supporting families, and serving those in need, and its support for families in times of crisis has made it a trusted partner for the community as a whole. In striving to be ``Alexandria's Community Church,'' True Vine has embraced a role that reaches far beyond Sunday worship.

Situated in the heart of Alexandria, the church is a beacon of faith and hope for its congregation and the surrounding area.

The church's rich history is rooted in the African-American community of Rapides Parish. From its humble beginnings as a small gathering of worshippers to its present-day status as a thriving congregation. First Bethlehem has weathered many challenges and triumphs, and through it all, it has remained steadfast in its commitment to serving God and ministering to the needs of its members. That unbroken history of service, stretching across more than a century and a half of change, is the foundation on which the church stands today.

Over the years, First Bethlehem has expanded its outreach to include a wide range of programs and services designed to benefit the community at large. From youth ministries to senior programs, the church offers something for people of every age and background, caring for the youngest members of the congregation and honoring its elders alike. Bradford Street in Pineville, Louisiana, a congregation that has served the Pineville area, and the greater Alexandria community across the Red River, for more than a century. Established in 1907 as a place of worship rooted in the Baptist tradition, Good Hope's mission is to be a community of believers empowered by the Holy Spirit to love God, love all people, and make disciples.

Good Hope began in the early 20th century as a small congregation meeting in a modest setting. Over the decades, it grew through the dedication of its members, expanding its worship services, outreach programs, and community involvement. From the beginning, the values of faith, service, and fellowship shaped the life of the church, and a long history of service has remained central to its identity ever since.

That history of service is the heart of Good Hope's story. The church's mission to love all people has been lived out through members who take part in local events, charitable work, and spiritual support for their neighbors. For generations, Good Hope has been a place where families have found worship, encouragement, and help in times of need, and

where the call to discipleship has been understood to include caring for the community beyond the church's walls.

In 2017, the church celebrated its 110th anniversary with a special program documented in a photo book, Good Hope Baptist Church 110th, by Michael R. Maffet. The anniversary project featured historical images, program details, and reflections on the church's journey, highlighting its role in the Pineville community and its enduring commitment to spiritual growth and service.

Today, under the leadership of Pastor Joseph K. Lewis and First Lady Tricia Lewis, Good Hope Baptist Church continues to uphold its founding mission. The church also reaches beyond its walls through social media and video content, including its YouTube channel, which shares worship services, events, and community updates, allowing the congregation's ministry to reach members and neighbors wherever they are.

The impact of Good Hope extends well beyond its own membership. As a longstanding congregation in the Pineville and Alexandria area, it contributes to the strength of the broader faith community, standing alongside other churches in the shared work of nurturing faith, supporting families, and building a community grounded in compassion. Since its founding in 1955, Pilgrim has served as a pillar of faith, fellowship, and community. Located at 410 Solomon Street in the heart of Alexandria, the church has long stood as a spiritual anchor for families seeking a Christ-centered place of worship rooted in the African American Baptist tradition. Today, the church is led by Pastor Tom Hamilton, Jr.

The legacy of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church is closely tied to the ministry of Rev. Tom Hamilton, whose pastoral journey began in 1987. Before shepherding the Pilgrim congregation, he ministered at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Colfax for 13 years and at Sunlight Baptist Church in Pineville for 7 years. His strong biblical teaching, compassionate leadership, and heart for service played a central role in strengthening the church's foundation, and under pastoral guidance Pilgrim has grown spiritually and numerically, building a strong tradition of worship, discipleship, and community presence.

Throughout its history, Pilgrim has committed itself to fostering spiritual formation and community engagement. The church's mission, to build disciples, nurture relationships, and extend the love of Christ through service, has shaped every aspect of its ministry. Through weekly worship services, Bible studies, prayer gatherings, and community programs, Pilgrim gives its members opportunities to deepen their faith while also serving the broader Alexandria community. Its outreach efforts, including annual back-to-school supply drives and various youth initiatives, reflect its belief that ministry extends beyond the sanctuary and into the neighborhoods it serves.

That history of service is at the heart of Pilgrim's identity. For more than 70 years, the church has been a place where families find a warm welcome, where young people are encouraged and supported, and where neighbors know they can turn for prayer and help. Supplying school materials to children preparing for a new school year, and investing in the lives of youth, are expressions of a congregation that understands its calling to lift up the community around it, and they are the reason Pilgrim has earned its reputation as a community- centered church.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Little Zion Baptist Church, a congregation that has stood for more than 130 years

and gives glory to God for its longevity. The original Little Zion Baptist Church was erected in the community of Brookstown in 1894 under the leadership of Rev. Wesley Smith, with a building committee that included the late Brother Thomas Haynes and the late Brother Whitney.

In 1924, the Brookstown sanctuary was destroyed by fire, a loss that led to the purchase of a new site on Edwin Street under the leadership of the late Rev. Beverly White, Sr. The building committee for the new church consisted of the late Brother Joseph White, Brother Jim Austin, and Brother Sunny Wade. By 1951, as the membership continued to grow, the congregation recognized that a renovation of the church was essential, and a building committee was established to meet the needs of its members. That renovation was completed under the leadership of the late Rev. R.W. Ball, who was later led to relocate Little Zion to 74th Avenue in the Banks Community, where the church stands today.

When Rev. Ball retired in 1963, Rev. Morris Jackson, Jr. was elected pastor the following year and went on to serve Little Zion for 44 years, guiding the congregation through four decades of change. Upon his retirement in 2008, his son, Marcus Jackson, was elected as Little Zion's fifth pastor, and he continues to serve today. Pastor Jackson has led Little Zion as a value-driven church that stands on the principles of faith, hope, and love, an approach that appreciates the assets each member brings to the church, the community, and the Kingdom.

Over its many years of existence, Little Zion has survived many challenges, from the loss of its first sanctuary to fire to the changes of more than a century. As the congregation grows into the image of Christ, it continues to influence its church, its families, its communities, and the world, spreading the gospel throughout all nations. The spirit and wisdom of its past have well equipped Little Zion to carry on a great legacy, and the congregation gives thanks to God for the dedication and faithfulness of its pastors and members throughout the years. and for the fact that, in its own words, it is ``still standing.''

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, located at 1140 Pride Port Hudson Road in Zachary, Louisiana, directly off Old Scenic Highway near the area known as the Plains. Founded and organized in 1857 under the leadership of the late Rev. Caddo Simms, Pleasant Grove is among the oldest churches in the Zachary area and in East Baton Rouge Parish, and its story spans nearly 170 years of faith, family, and community.

The land for the church's first site was donated by Dr. T.L. Mills, Sr. and his wife, Mrs. Mary Louise Young Mills, who was the driving force behind the gift. It is worth remembering that this gift was made before the Civil War, at a time when slavery was a well-known practice. A small building was constructed, and Rev. Simms and the congregation worshiped there until 1904, when the church was enlarged to about twice its original size. Rev. Allen Governor followed Rev. Simms as pastor, and over the years the congregation elected several other pastors, including Rev. Sam Watkins, Rev. T.D. Smith, Rev. Dan Williams, and Rev. Rivers Johnson, with Rev. Watkins and Rev. Johnson each elected twice.

Pleasant Grove's history is closely tied to the education of Black children in the community. Under Rev. Johnson's leadership, the old church was moved to the site of the former Mills Rosenwald School, which stood on land also donated by the Mills family. Rosenwald schools were established so that Black children could receive a free education, an effort that grew out of the vision of Booker T. Washington and the financial support of Julius Rosenwald. In the late 1940s, the Mills family

and the members of Pleasant Grove made an even exchange of property, and the congregation began worshiping in the old school building, which was in better condition than the church, as neighborhood children moved on to the newly built Northwestern High School. The current church remains on that property and was rebuilt in 1960 while Rev. Johnson was still pastor. He served until his failing eyesight forced his retirement, supported by associate pastors Rev. Joe Thomas and Rev. Arthur Brown, Sr., who served until their deaths.

Rev. Lucious O'Connor, who united with the church in the late 1940s and later organized its first choir, along with many choirs throughout the Zachary, Port Hudson, and Ethel areas, became pastor in 1963. The church's cornerstone was laid in 1974 by the M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, with Ulysses Morgan serving as chairperson of the Deacons and Sis. Louise Brown Thomas as chairman of the Deaconess Board. Under Rev. O'Connor, the church was renovated several times, began holding Vacation Bible School for all of the community's children each summer, and established weekly Bible study. An outdoor baptismal pool was built in the early 1970s, and renovations in the early 1980s added an inside baptismal pool, new pews, an improved rear of the church, and a paved parking lot. Rev. O'Connor resigned in 1996 after many years of service.

In 1997, Rev. Norwood C. Booker, Jr. was elected pastor, and for the first time Pleasant Grove began holding worship services every Sunday. He served faithfully until his untimely death in March 2011, and under his leadership the church became more financially stable. In January 2012, Rev. Dennis Lawrence was elected pastor. Guided by its mission statement, ``We are a spiritual team striving for excellence through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, realizing that no one is perfect, yet continuously striving,'' the congregation improved its annex and sanctuary during his tenure, including replacing all of the sanctuary's light fixtures. In 2019, the Mills family and the church renegotiated their land agreement, allowing the church to remain at its present site with an additional 80 square feet donated by the Mills family.

The end of 2019 and the start of 2020 brought a season of deep grief, as the church lost several beloved and faithful servants: Sis. Marie Jones, a loyal deaconess; Sis. Rosemary Duncan, a longtime usher; Sis. Juanita Thomas Hill, song leader and president of the choir; and Sis. Beulah Rene Richardson Collins, also a devoted usher. Then the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, and beginning in March 2020 the congregation worshipped together every Sunday by conference call, with Sunday school at 7 a.m. and worship at 8 a.m. The congregation persevered, and in 2021 it undertook the remodeling and reconstruction of the church's walls and roof, with all services continuing by call during construction. The first official Sunday back in the church was held in the first week of August 2022.

In January 2024, the church selected Rev. Chad Cooper as its pastor, and he was installed and ordained at Pleasant Grove on March 9, 2024. Pastor Cooper began his leadership by encouraging the congregation to reach one more person, a reminder of the church's purpose of discipleship. Today, Pleasant Grove holds Sunday school every Sunday, worship on first Sundays, Holy Communion on third Sundays, and Bible study every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and under Pastor Cooper's leadership the deacon board completed needed work on the inside baptismal pool and the handicap ramp. Known through the generations as a family-oriented church with close community ties, Pleasant Grove has seen its membership change over the years, but its faith has not. As the congregation sings, ``What a Great God We Serve,'' knowing that God is still in control.

Mr. Speaker, I ask my colleagues to join me in celebrating Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Pastor Chad Cooper, and the dedicated congregation for more than 168 years of faith, perseverance, and service to the Zachary community. May Pleasant Grove continue to march on for generations to come.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor St. Alma Baptist Church, a historic congregation in the rural community of Lakeland in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Slavery was abolished in 1865, and 9 years later, in 1874, under the leadership of its founding pastor, Rev. Horace Jones, St. Alma Baptist Church was erected on the Alma Plantation. The original church was a white wooden building with three rows of benches and a wood heater set in the middle of the sanctuary. Its initial membership of 65 persons consisted mainly of field workers, with Jake Whitfield serving as president of the Board of Deacons and William Watkins as senior deacon. Within just 9 years of freedom, a congregation of field workers had built a house of worship of its own.

From its earliest years, St. Alma was committed to educating the children of the community. In the early 1900s, the church served as the local school for elementary students, and it continued that mission through The Saint Alma Elementary School until a school was built on the grounds of the church under the administration of the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board. That school did not close until the late 1950s. Rev. Horace Jones served the congregation until his death on June 8, 1920, and after a year without a pastor, the congregation elected Rev. Steven Johnson in 1921.

Over the course of its long history, St. Alma has been blessed with seven pastors, the first four of whom served until their deaths. Rev. Steven Johnson served until his death in 1928, and Rev. Sidney Davis served faithfully until his death in 1950. Rev. Cenas Jones then led the congregation until his death in 1973. Rev. James Allen Terrance was installed as pastor on February 6, 1994, and served until February 28, 2003, when he resigned to become pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Rev. Davis Thomas, Jr. was installed as the church's sixth pastor on March 28, 2004, and served until his resignation on March 8, 2007.

On February 17, 2008, Rev. Dr. Mary Moss was installed as St. Alma's seventh pastor, a historic moment in the life of what was then a 134- year-old church. She became the first woman elected to the position of pastor of this traditional Baptist church and the first woman ever installed by the Fourth District Baptist Association, then 133 years old.

Many ministries have been born out of St. Alma Baptist Church, each designed to meet the present needs of its members and the local community. In this post-pandemic season, the church remains faithful to intergenerational ministry, producing strong young leaders and helping its members find their fit for ministry, and more than 15 new members have been added. Central to its outreach is a radio broadcast aired on WXOK in Baton Rouge and KCLF in New Roads, carrying the church's message well beyond Lakeland. Today, St. Alma looks toward the future with plans to build a new sanctuary at 3736 Rougon Road. As the congregation testifies along with the Psalmist in Psalm 118:23, ``This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.''

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Holly Grove Baptist Church of Zachary, Louisiana, a congregation built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone. Each year, the church pays tribute to God the Father, the head of the church, and to the many men and women who laid its foundation, sustained it, and continue to ensure that it thrives as a community of believers.

Holly Grove was founded in 1896 by brothers Isaac Square, Sr. and Jacob Franklin, who traveled from Alabama to Louisiana. The church was named Holly Grove by Josephine Square Burks, Martha Square, and George Youngblood because of the holly trees on the property, and the original building stood to the left of the current structure, where a parking area is today. Rev. Isaac Square, Sr. served as the first pastor and set the example for those who followed. The Square family legacy continued with Rev. Isaac Square, Jr.. followed by Rev. Mark Smith. Rev. Verge Hayes, Rev. Prince Williams, and Rev. Henry Odell, who together served the church from 1896 to 1932 ensuring its stability and growth during its formative years. Many members today are direct descendants of these founding leaders.

In those early years, the church held services twice a month, with Communion on first Sundays. Fourth Sundays were set aside for

``Speak Meetings,'' where members shared their testimonies, offering opportunities for spiritual reflection and mutual encouragement. Summer revivals were central to church life, renewing faith and reaching out to the surrounding community, and baptisms were held in the nearby Comite River. Holly Grove also has the distinction of having once been a school: documents indicate that the property next to the present building was donated on January 4, 1913, for use as ``a public school for colored children.''

From 1932 to 1971, Rev. Robert Tate, Jr. served as pastor for nearly 40 years, and under his leadership, with the support of church leaders and congregants, funds were raised to build the current church. He was followed by Rev. Pompey Square, the great-great-grandson of Isaac Square, Sr., who served from 1972 to 1982, a testament to a seed planted by a founder generations earlier. Rev. Lorenzo Neff, affectionately known as ``Rev. Nute,'' served from 1984 to 1986, and his brother, Rev. Robert Groce, followed in January 1987 and served until his passing in March 2006. During his tenure, Rev. Groce baptized many middle-aged members, organized the ``Next Generation'' Youth Choir, formed the Male Choir, expanded services to the second and third Sundays, initiated twice-monthly Communion and Speak Meetings, and led the church's first building projects, including the original fellowship hall. He also recognized the need to train younger deacons, including Wesley Green III, Marque Square, Marcus Square, and Robert Brown, though he passed before they were installed. Rev. William Barrow then served as pastor from January 2007 to January 2008.

On February 24, 2008, Rev. Sam Williams, Jr. was elected pastor, and he was installed on April 27, 2008, as the youngest pastor Holly Grove had ever had. Focused on the vision of ``Becoming a Healthy Church,'' with an emphasis on discipleship, evangelism, worship, fellowship, and ministry, he added a fifth Sunday service and the Women of Virtue Choir and renamed the Youth Choir ``Joyful Noise.'' The sanctuary was renovated twice, first in December 2013, with services resuming in March 2014. When the church flooded in 2016, the congregation continued to worship in the fellowship hall until returning to the sanctuary in April 2017.

During the church's 120th anniversary, a successful banquet was coordinated by Sister Vikki Wicker and Sister Lawanna Green. Rev. Williams also introduced interactive youth services on third Sundays and baptized seven young members on March 20, 2022. Throughout the pandemic, the church expanded its fellowship hall and held Sunday school and worship virtually. Rev. Williams served his last Communion on August 7, 2022, and Rev. Perry Jones served from August 2022 to August 2023.

On May 12, 2024, Holly Grove elected Eric Patterson as its pastor, and he was installed on June 29, 2024. During his first year, Angie Jones and Barbara Neff were installed as deaconesses, and he has expanded the church's engagement through social media and digital giving. Holly Grove has been blessed with congregants who understand the importance of serving, from the ushers who welcome worshipers and help maintain order, to the choir and musicians who lead the congregation in worship each Sunday.
