Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Deborah Lamaison, a Public Safety Officer with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety in Rohnert Park, California. I have named Mrs. Lamaison as a Public Safety Hero of the Year for Sonoma County in California's 4th District as a result of her extraordinary selflessness, dedication and service to others.
Mrs. Lamaison was born in Santa Rosa, California, and grew up in the nearby city of Rohnert Park. She began her career in the automobile towing industry, helping her father run a small family business where she was the sole female tow truck operator in Sonoma County for many years. Mrs. Lamaison, with the support of her husband, then pursued her dream of becoming a police officer. She has since been a dedicated Public Safety Officer for the city of Rohnert Park for 20 years
During her time at the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, she has served as a Detective, a Firefighter, a member of the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team, and as her current title of School Resource Officer. As the School Resource Officer for the city of Rohnert Park, she has worked to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the community. She regularly engages with youth in not just one school, but all the schools within the city's jurisdiction. Her compassionate approach to policing has been part of her mission to thoughtfully engage with those around her to reach positive and successful outcomes whilst fostering trust within the community. Mrs. Lamaison has set a public example of how law enforcement can engage with youth and keep our students and school campuses safer.
When Mrs. Lamaison is not on duty, she is a dedicated mother to her two children, Nico and Mariah. She also volunteers her time to participate with Rancho Cotate High School's MECHA club events and serves as the teacher's assistant for the Zero Period Weight Training Class. She is also a member of the National Physique Committee for amateur bodybuilding and is a Spanish language translator. Those who know her describe her as humble, patient, respectful, caring, strong and an exemplary role model.
Mr. Speaker, we thank Mrs. Debbie Lamaison for her persistence, service, and commitment to our community. Therefore. it is fitting and proper that we honor her today.
