Introduced July 16, 2019

AI-Generated Summary

Updated April 14, 2026 at 7:08 AM UTC

The Citizens Count Census Act of 2019 changes the law so that every questionnaire used for the United States’ ten‑year population count must include a question asking respondents whether they are a U.S. citizen or national. The amendment applies to the 2020 census and all future decennial censuses, affecting anyone who fills out the census form and the agencies that collect the data.

Key Provisions

  • Amends Title 13 of the U.S. Code to add a new subsection requiring a citizenship or national status checkbox on all decennial census questionnaires starting with the 2020 census and every census thereafter.
  • Re‑labels the existing subsection (g) as subsection (h) to make room for the new citizenship question provision.
